Songs of the Week - 16/06/2025

These are the 11 tracks you need to check out this week!

Maisi - 'am i in my prime?'

This week's Songs of the Week kick off with a song that is not only one of the catchiest I've heard for some time, but also one of the most relatable. Alt-pop superstar Maisi has just released her outstanding new single 'am i in my prime?', an infectious single that explores the concept of feeling like you're wasting the prime years of your life. The track is lyrically poignant and musically excellent, proving explicitly why Maisi is one of the most exciting artists around right now.

St. Catherine's Child - 'This Might Affect You'

St. Catherine's Child has long earned a reputation as one of the most poetic and poignant writers in the indie-folk and americana scenes, and nothing proves that more than her stunning debut album 'This Might Affect You'. The record reflects the chronological story of St. Catherine's Child's father passing, penning deeply personal songs around her processing of life and death. The whole album is a reflective songwriting masterpiece, with the title acting as a perfect summary of exactly why you should listen.

Miranda Faul - 'Patience'

The trend of emotion-inducing songs this week continues with Miranda Faul's stirring new single 'Patience'. The song provides an atmospheric folk-pop exploration of the compulsion to chase immediate exciting opportunities that can often be more damaging in the long-term, as opposed to having some 'patience' and figuring out what is really best for you. The song is an introspective delve into Miranda's own thought processes, penned in a way that makes them relatable to all.

Broken Hertz - 'Ride'

With summer arriving, everyone will be beginning to compose their summer playlists, and there is no song more perfect than the new Broken Hertz release 'Ride'. The track, which marks the band's second song of the week appearance this year, is a bouncy indie-folk offering which sees Broken Hertz expand their sonic horizons beyond their alt-rock roots. With a continually evolving sound and songs getting better with every release, Broken Hertz look set to leave a real mark on the alt-music scene for years to come.

pyncher - 'At the Seaside'

One of 2025's biggest breakout bands has been Manchester’s Pyncher, a genre-blending quartet who have just released their third single of the year, ‘At the Seaside’. The new release sees Pyncher adopt a more shoegaze-based sound, blending an uneasy gothic rock tone with a stirring vocal track which is enhanced by frequent harmonies. With every release, Pyncher seems to be honing in on increasingly authentic sounds that feel tailor-made to fill the biggest rooms in the not-so-distant future.

Luke Jones - 'Miss Hollywood'

Another artist taking 2025 by storm is Luke Jones, who at only eighteen is releasing an infectious brand of blues-infused indie rock that is up there with the very best. Luke has just released his incredible new single ‘Miss Hollywood’, an anthemic track that pairs driving guitar with hard-hitting drums to create the perfect pre-summer indie soundscape. The song is all brought together by Jones’ soaring vocals, with the young singer-songwriter somehow sounding even better with every new release.

Spielmann - 'Got To Go To Work'

The euphoric indie releases continue with the punchy new anthem from Spielmann, 'Got To Go To Work'. In only 2 and a half minutes, Spielmann manages to charm with his lyrical exploration of the chaos that can come with a night of partying knowing you have work the next day. The engaging lyricism is brought to life but some captivating vocals and an upbeat musical backing make this song, somewhat ironically, the perfect listen before a big night out. The song’s release has also been paired with the announcement of Spielmann’s highly anticipated upcoming EP ‘Back By Popular Demand’, which will be released on September 26th.

Forever Forever - 'Stasis'

This month is the biggest to date for London-based genre-expansive quartet Forever Forever, who last week released their powerful new single ‘Stasis’. The song tackles the static nature of modern life, where so much needs to be changed, but nothing ever seems to be done, creating a deep-rooted sense of frustration. It is lyrically profound, vocally sensational, and brought together by a dynamic backing that manages to provoke its own independent emotions. The month is still set to get even bigger for Forever Forever as they gear up to play their first headline show on June 20th at The Troubadour, which will undoubtedly be a night to remember.

Sunstinger - 'SOMETHING STRANGE'

Last week saw Scottish shoegaze powerhouses Sunstinger drop ‘SOMETHING STRANGE’, their first single of 2025, in what may well be their biggest-sounding release to date. ‘SOMETHING STRANGE’ is a dynamic masterpiece, blending textured instrumentals with raw lyricism that perfectly captures the feeling of emotional unravelling that can come when stuck in a whirlwind of internal conflict. Sunstinger have developed a powerful approach to songwriting, making listeners feel represented by their music all whilst wanting to break free from the matter at hand.

Dónal Martin - 'SWEET-TEA'

Another artist who dropped their first single of 2025 last week is singer-songwriter Dónal Martin, who just released his new feel-good single ‘SWEET-TEA’. The song intertwines radiant melodies with vivid imagery to perfectly capture the feeling of falling for someone. There is no reliance on clichés or overused tropes. Instead, Dónal has created a love song that comes across as deeply authentic and reflective of so many people's feelings when abiding affection begins to grow.

Dekker - 'Let Me Take You'

This week’s Songs of the Week are rounded out by the brilliant breezy new release from Dekker, ‘Let Me Take You’, which manages to offer emotionally resonant lyricism within the package of a vibrant acoustic-led track. Dekker’s warm melodies and heartfelt vocals create an intimate atmosphere whilst listening, with the emotion poured into each line really resonating. ‘Let Me Take You’ will feature on Dekker’s upcoming fourth album ‘Neither Up Nor Down’, which is set for release on September 26th, and if the new single is anything to go by, this looks set to be a very special record.
