Songs of the Week - 07/04/2025

These are the 13 tracks you need to check out this week!

Hot Milk - 'Swallow This'

Hot Milk are back with their second release of the year, the relentlessly paced 'Swallow This', which fights back against 'control media'. This is the band's second offering from upcoming album 'Corporation P.O.P', which is out on June 27th, again proving that this album could be their best to date. Hot Milk had fast gained a reputation for being one of the best newcomers on the UK rock scene over the last few years, but are now fully fledged headliners, and with releases this good seem set to stay there for a very long time.

Aimie Fleur - 'Souvenir'

Aimie Fleur launches herself into the alt-pop scene with her high-velocity debut single 'Souvenir', a track that immediately puts her in good stead amongst the genre. The vocals throughout the track are perfect, combining an anthemic electro-influenced backing track, to create a pop song that feels tailor-made to soundtrack the very best of nights out. This is an extremely impressive track from Aimie, who will no doubt become a big player in the pop scene in the years to come.

Toby Sebastian - 'Heaven Is the Backseat of a Rental Car'

Last week saw Toby Sebastian release his long-awaited second album 'Eyes Light Up', blending sounds from the late 60s and early 70s with a real modernised feel. Every track on the album is deeply impressive, but 'Heaven Is the Backseat of a Rental Car' in particular feels the perfect track to be listening to this time of year. The song wouldn't be out of place in a coming of age summery movie, making it the ideal listen as the days begin to get that little bit brighter and warmer.

RVE - 'wolves'

RVE have released the most ethereal range of singles over the past two years, culminating in the release of their stunning debut EP 'Howlin'' last week. The EP features three incredible pre-released tracks, but is led by this spellbinding new song 'wolves'. Much like every song on the EP, 'wolves' epitomises what makes RVE so great. They manage to create the most gentle yet attention-grabbing instrumentals, and intertwine them amongst poetic lyricism and angelic vocals to create some of the most beautiful music I have heard in some time.

Saint Valentine - 'The Good'

Saint Valentine recently released 'The Good', a track that epitomises indie-folk excellence. The passionate, soft-hearted release is the second single to be released from their highly anticipated debut EP 'Transjester', telling a story of deep admiration towards a female friend. The enchanting lyricism on display throughout the new track will immerse listeners in an almost story-like world, carefully crafted by the artistic brilliance of Saint Valentine.

Hannah Mazey - 'I'll Be Fine'

Long-term favourite Hannah Mazey returned with her first solo offering of the year last week, dropping the genre-blending track 'I'll Be Fine'. Taking sonic influence from jazz and R&B, Hannah has created a song that poignantly captures her battle with overthinking and compulsive anxiety, both in relationships and everyday life. The songwriting on show is incredible, further contributing to the overall incredible sound of 'I'll Be Fine'. The new release follows Hannah's recent SOTW appearance alongside BARSTAFF with their collaborative track 'HELL NO / iN LOVE'

Lea G - 'BETTER OF ME'

It is safe to say last week was a pretty special one for Lea G, playing a huge sold-out headline show at the Hope & Anchor on the Thursday, which followed the release of incredible new single 'BETTER OF ME' the day before. The new track, which is the first to be taken from Lea G's upcoming EP 'THE FLOOD', is a soft-indie song that showcases the stellar vocals Lea possesses. The carefully written song flawlessly sums up that feeling of being stuck in that grey area between moving on with self-improvement, and falling back to old ways. If 'BETTER OF ME' is a sign of things to come, then 'THE FLOOD' is set to be one special EP.

Moni Jean - 'Broken Record'

Indie-pop artist Moni Jean released her sensational second single 'Broken Record' last Friday, telling the tale of a relationship stuck in a toxic cycle of repeating unhealthy habits, but not wanting to let go. Despite the bittersweet nature of the song, the tone remains upbeat, providing at times an enjoyable contrast between joyous sounding instrumentals and lyrics that show the relationship struggles. It is yet another well balanced song from Moni Jean, following on from February's brilliant debut release 'Trust Fall'.

Mina My - 'Washing Machine'

Indie/alt-rocker Mina My recently dropped 'Washing Machine', a punchy guitar-driven track that provides the perfect introduction for those unfamiliar with Mina's music. The catchy track soundtracks the feeling of being overwhelmed by anxious thoughts, and wishing you could just wash them all away. It is constructed perfectly so that, on the surface level, you can just sit back and enjoy catchy indie brilliance. But if you take a step back and enjoy the song on a deeper level, you actually start feeling like your own experiences are being accurately captured by Mina's cleverly written track.

BREEO - 'Solar Complexity'

BREEO is back with her second single 'Solar Complexity', an alt-pop track that seamlessly catches all the character and joy that BREEO will undoubtedly bring to the music scene for years to come. The track is dynamic in approach, starting off as a more upbeat alt-pop song, before a string section add a whole new level of brilliance. This new release follows last year's debut release 'Irrelevant' which is also featured in my Songs of the Week making BREEO 2 for 2!

Penny Skint - 'In The Mood'

Kent-based trio Penny Skint recently released their stellar second single 'In The Mood', an alt-rock bop that you cannot help but dance along too whilst listening. The song feels like a statement of intention for what this exceptional trio are going to deliver for the coming years. Liam Phillips' strong raw vocals and well-toned guitar work mixes perfectly with the slick basslines and harmonious backings of Megan Mayes, with Dan Williams' hard-hitting drum work tying the track together effortlessly.

Boele - 'Oh Well'

Last Friday saw Amsterdam pop artist Boele release his third single 'Oh Well', an atmospheric track that flawlessly combines Boele's powerful vocals with a synth backing, capped off with light electro-aspects which makes the songs whole soundscape a truly enjoyable experience. Boele continues to get better with every release, and given he is only 16 years old, the sky really is the limit.

Shaun Finn - 'TV Show'

This week's round-up is finished off by this infectious new release from Shaun Finn. With 'TV Show', Shaun has created a captivating 5-minute track that is as story-driven as it is musically enjoyable. The gritty riffs that drive the core of the track will instantly grab listener's attentions, before Shaun's vocal and lyrical work undoubtedly convert this listener interest into new fans. 'TV Show' is a catchy epic that provides a brilliant introduction to Shaun Finn's music.
