Eileen Alister - 'Drama Baby'

This week’s Songs of the Week kick off with Eileen Alister’s ‘Drama Baby’. If Eileen Alister is the future of pop, it’s safe to say the future has more than arrived. Eileen’s meteoric rise over the past 12 months has been nothing short of phenomenal, getting bigger and better with every release as she races toward the release of her debut album 'Honeymoon In A Motel' (out October 3rd) and a huge run of tour dates this year and next. The most recent release to be taken from the debut album is ‘Drama Baby’, a glittering, infectious track about the exhausting habit of overthinking. Written as a reflection on how she’s perceived, how to fit in, and how to avoid saying the “wrong” thing, Eileen flips the anxiety on its head, choosing to dance through it instead.

Beth McCarthy - 'Treat Me Like A Rockstar'

Beth McCarthy channels pure rock ‘n’ roll fantasy in ‘Treat Me Like a Rockstar’, a fiery, tongue-in-cheek love letter to the bands she grew up idolising. The song is one of Beth’s punchiest to date, featuring a catchy hook and some of Beth’s “favourite (and most unhinged) lyrics” to date. The song is delivered with swagger and self-assurance, fusing the grit and attitude of the rock icons who shaped Beth with the pop-rock brilliance that she has become renowned for. It’s a track built for shouting along, full of playful bravado and infectious energy. Both a nod to her influences and a declaration of her own star power, ‘Treat Me Like a Rockstar’ proves Beth isn’t just paying tribute, she’s carving her own place in the lineage.

CATTY - 'Prized Possession'

Fans of glam-pop superstar CATTY were treated to a surprise new release this past week, ‘Prized Possession’, a track that sees drama turned all the way up through an all-or-nothing love song that pairs obsession with devotion. Driven by thunderous drums, searing guitars, distorted synths and layered, powerful vocals, this is an unapologetically high-energy track that holds nothing back. ‘Prized Possession’ channels the intensity and abandon of loving with everything you have, and craving the same in return. Darkly romantic and grand in style yet irresistibly tuneful, ‘Prized Possession’ stands as an anthem of passion at its core, with a fearless edge.

Courting - 'the twins (1969)'

Nottingham band Courting return with ‘The Twins (1969)’, the lead single from the deluxe edition of their acclaimed March album ‘Lust For Life, Or: How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’. The track zeroes in on absence and the emotional weight left behind, reflecting on how we often only realise what we’ve lost once it’s gone. The conversational lyrics and tightly wound vocals build a sense of frustration and disconnection, wrapped in a looping, urgent melody. It’s a raw, sharp moment that fits perfectly with the album’s themes of duality, aftermath, and the uneasy balance between clarity and confusion. Expanding on an already outstanding album is no easy task, but with a release this strong, Courting show the upcoming deluxe edition could be even better than the original.

Laura Evans - 'Superman'

Powerhouse singer-songwriter Laura Evans dropped her newest single ‘Superman’ last week, the latest single from her upcoming album Out of the Dark, set for release on October 17th. Inspired by a nickname her friends gave her husband when they first met, the song pairs Laura’s spellbinding vocals with a vibrant, driving groove that’s impossible not to move to. After writing many heartfelt and introspective tracks over the years, ‘Superman’ brings a joyful, upbeat approach to a love song that celebrates connection and happiness. It’s a bright track that captures the excitement of new love in a heartfelt well which will surely resonate with so many.

Rosie Gault - 'When I Drink Wine'

Today marks the release of Rosie Gault’s masterful new EP ‘Songs From Winter’, which follows the release of four new singles over the last month, including yesterday’s moving ‘Notch in a Bedpost’, and last week’s hauntingly beautiful ‘When I Drink Wine’. Every track on the EP is a work of art, but for me the focus track has to be the candid ‘When I Drink Wine’. It’s an apology wrapped in a song, highlighting that sometimes the kindest thing you can do is let someone move on, even when you’re left with regrets about what you wish you’d done differently. Rosie’s emotional songwriting perfectly captures those relatable feelings of late-night guilt, offering a gentle reminder to forgive yourself. Mistakes don’t make you a bad person.

Long Fling - 'Flung'

Collaborations don’t get much bigger than the meeting of two Dutch indie heavyweights in the new project Long Fling. Pip Blom, the namesake and vocalist of the band Pip Blom, and Willem Smit, the creative force behind Personal Trainer, have joined forces to create a duo project that brings a fresh energy to the indie scene, highlighted by their stellar debut single ‘Flung’. The single captures Long Fling’s effortless chemistry with its raw yet refined sound, combining quirky, offbeat rhythms and bold, melodic hooks that feel both immediate and refreshingly original. The duo have also already announced their self-titled debut album will be arriving October 3rd, 2025, clearly not wasting any time before making their mark.

Ewan Sim - 'Land Of The Living'

Ewan Sim’s ‘Land Of The Living’ bursts with raw intensity and expansive atmosphere, driven by stellar vocals saturated with emotion. The track is powerful yet intimate, cutting through a vast and immersive soundscape. Sim’s new release builds around a gripping instrumental foundation that balances soulful energy with moments of striking vulnerability. A standout breakdown towards the song’s end introduces a rhythmic pulse that propels the song forward with urgency and depth, layering dynamic shifts that create a powerful, unforgettable journey blending grit and grandeur seamlessly. Ewan Sim has been growing with every release, and this is undoubtedly his best to date.

Sam Lambeth - 'Summer's Gone'

Sam Lambeth’s new album ‘No Sign of the Summer’ is a striking collection that uses summer as a rich metaphor for life’s fleeting moments, innocence, longing, love, and the bittersweet passage of time. The whole album is a masterclass in songwriting, but ‘Summer’s Gone’ in particular shines as a beautifully melodic reflection steeped in regret and nostalgia, perfectly capturing those complex emotions tied to endings and change. The album itself is a strong, cohesive work that balances raw honesty with intricate craftsmanship, showcasing Lambeth’s growth as a songwriter while delivering a resonant, emotionally charged listening experience.

Vienna - 'Half Past Rad'

Vienna have returned with their first new music since the release of their debut EP Street Fighter II earlier this year. Coming back with a renewed energy, ‘Half Past Rad’ marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the UK Midwest emo band, balancing punchy riffs and candid lyrics with a spirited, tongue-in-cheek vibe. The new track sees Vienna stick to their DIY roots, whilst evolving their musical identity. Opening with a classic audio clip from Video Game High School, the song carries a driving energy while exploring the struggle to stay afloat amid everyday pressures. It’s a confident step forward that remains true to the heart of Vienna’s sound, setting the tone for what’s next.

Eleonora - 'Creator'

Eleonora steps boldly into new territory last week with the release of her latest single, 'Creator'. Known for her cinematic and soulful style, Eleonora has infused her signature sound with a vibrant indie energy, weaving hypnotic guitar grooves with an empowering message about having the ability to rewrite your own story and shape the life you want. Balancing self-affirmation with mantra-like encouragement, the track captures the hopes and strength needed to face new challenges, reminding listeners that despite hardship, achieving your wildest dreams is possible. This fresh, uplifting single marks a confident evolution in Eleonora’s artistic journey.

Alaina Margaret Droog - 'Too Soon?'

Yesterday saw Alaina Margaret Droog return with her first release of 2025, 'Too Soon?', a raw and joyful track born from late-night creativity and emotional reflection. Using a simple bedroom setup, with acoustic guitar, a bucket, candle, and knitting needles as drums, Alaina wrote, produced, and mixed the song herself. Starting soft and folk-tinged, the song builds to a powerful chorus full of youthful energy and late-night road trip vibes. Alaina’s heartfelt vocals invite listeners to live life in the moment and hold onto the fleeting magic of summer, making this a vibrant anthem of self-expression and healing.

Televised Mind - 'Mind Over Matter'

This week’s Songs of the Week are rounded off by Televised Mind’s gritty new single, ‘Mind Over Matter’. Propelled by a relentless groove of tightly wound guitar and drums, it channels an energy that cements the band’s growing presence in the UK’s indie-punk scene. Vocals brimming with attitude and raw intensity ride over the top, building a taut tension that erupts into explosive, distorted choruses. Catchy yet uncompromising, it hurtles forward at full tilt, pulling listeners headfirst into a rush of post-punk brilliance.
