Songs of the Week - 03/11/2025
These are the 9 tracks you need to check out this week!
Matt Hansen - 'DON'T LOOK BACK'
This week’s Songs of the Week are kicked off by Matt Hansen’s new single Don’t Look Back, a powerful, uplifting release that captures the rush of falling in love and the courage to move forward. Driven by soaring melodies, pulsing percussion, and his trademark emotive vocals, the track builds into an anthemic pop moment that feels both deeply personal and widely relatable. There’s an undeniable confidence running through the song, as Hansen balances vulnerability with strength, delivering a performance that’s equal parts heartfelt and energising. This is yet another stellar release from Matt Hansen, who seems to have found the perfect formula of creating songs that feel tailor-made for radio play, whilst still maintaining an authenticity that keeps his music feeling fresh.

Lydia Clowes - 'Do It All Again'
Lydia Clowes returns with her first new release for over two years, ‘Do It All Again’, a beautifully restrained and quietly powerful track that ushers in a confident new era. Built around soft piano tones and stunning string sections, the new track captures the feeling of holding out hope even when the outcome is uncertain. The lyrics reflect on what it means to keep showing up for yourself despite setbacks, while Lydia’s voice glides with stunning control and honesty, balancing melancholy with quiet optimism. ‘Do It All Again’ is a song about faith, in yourself, in possibility, and in finding the courage to begin once more. It is a sensational return from Lydia, which has already made her upcoming 2nd EP one of my most highly anticipated releases.
Beattie - 'Forgotten'
Beattie makes an impressive start to her independent journey with ‘Forgotten’, a bold and emotionally charged track that captures the fallout of being seemingly forgotten about by someone once central to your life. The song moves between moments of quiet reflection and anthemic intensity, blending atmospheric production and rich harmonies to create a striking sense of tension and release. There’s a real strength to how the instrumental builds, expansive yet controlled, allowing Beattie’s vocals to soar without losing their grounding, particularly in the impactful choruses. It’s a track that’s confident, cinematic, and full of feeling, standing as a powerful statement of what’s to come from Beattie’s new chapter.

Fig Tape ft. Bearson - 'Forcefed Serenity'
Fig Tape recently released his highly anticipated debut album, ‘Forcefed Serenity’ a 10-track genre-blending masterpiece. Whilst every track on the album brings its own brilliance, I am not sure any track captures the essence of the album quite like the title track. The song ‘Forcefed Serenity’, which also features Bearson, is a statement track that distils the record’s exploration of chaos, clarity, and self-perception into an energetic burst of musical brilliance. The track layers sharp electronic textures over a haze of guitars and relentless rhythms, building a soundscape that feels astronomical. The genius of the song’s soundscape is matched lyrically, reflecting on the pressure to appear composed while navigating inner turmoil, perfectly mirroring the album’s wider themes of digital overload and modern disconnection.
Spearside - 'Couldn't Be Told'
Last month saw Spearside release their second EP of the year, driven by fiery title track ‘Couldn’t Be Told’. The song tears straight out of the gates with the band’s signature ferocity, immediately setting the tone for the chaotically brilliant EP that follows. Blending relentless punk energy with hard-hitting melodies and raw honesty, the song channels youthful defiance and reflection in equal measure. There’s a sense of urgency that runs through every riff and drum hit, underpinned by lyrics that explore the arrogance of youth and the lessons that come too late. Self-produced and unfiltered, ‘Couldn’t Be Told’ feels like Spearside’s most complete work to date. Heavier, sharper, and more self-assured than ever.

Moa - 'Anya'
Moa’s latest single ‘Anya’ continues her breakthrough 2025 in the most spectacular way. It is an emotionally charged track that channels feelings of inadequacy, longing, and quiet acceptance. Written as a way of processing messy emotions, it captures the ache of watching someone drift toward another person who seems effortlessly perfect. However, despite the song carrying a melancholic weight thematically, the glittering production and upbeat vocals keep the track fitting perfectly within a catchy pop genre. ‘Anya’ unfolds like a confessional, honest, raw, and quietly devastating, marking one of Moa’s most affecting releases to date.
Fools & Sages - 'Ascend With Me'
Fools & Sages have just dropped their fourth single ‘Ascend With Me’, and it may just be their best to date. The new track blends heavy riff-driven hard rock with soaring vocals, creating a track that feels almost otherworldly. The song channels the spirit of ’70s rock while stamping the band’s own modern identity, using harmonious dual vocals and bold guitar lines to navigate themes of perseverance, self-discovery, and the unifying power of music. Listeners are taken on a dynamic journey through soaring choruses and reflective moments, balancing grit with a sense of uplift. ‘Ascend With Me’ is a compelling showcase of Fools & Sages' ability to combine a punchier sound with emotive storytelling, further highlighting why this is such an exciting project to be following

Mia Grace - 'Fear'
Mia Grace builds on the brilliance of her September return with her second single of the year, ‘Fear’, a commanding pop track that flawlessly blends stripped-back verses with a soaring chorus that instantly empowers. The song tackles the everyday realities of women’s safety with lyrical precision and melodic drive, turning a serious subject into something both thought-provoking and musically compelling. The impact of the song is further emphasised by a moving talking outro section. Grace’s ability to combine social commentary with pop sensibility is truly astonishing, managing to create a song that resonates on both a personal and cultural level. It perfectly sets the tone for her upcoming EP ‘Roses’, a collection exploring empowerment, resilience, and the complexities of modern womanhood.
ILA - 'Unforgettable'
This week’s Songs of the Week are rounded out by ILA’s first release of 2025, the rather fittingly named ‘Unforgettable’. It is a delicate, ethereal track that blends her stunning, emotive vocals with lush, string-infused backing, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. The song flows with a gentle, floating quality, balancing emotional depth with a sense of lightness that makes it linger long after the final note. Layered harmonies and subtle instrumental flourishes elevate the track to new emotional heights. ‘Unforgettable’ showcases ILA’s ability to craft music that manages to be simultaneously intimate and expansive, highlighting her skill in blending vocal finesse with elegant, understated production.
