The Feeling:
Tonight saw indie-pop icons The Feeling bring their Greatest Hits Tour to Cambridge Junction for their first show in the city for nearly a decade. As you would expect from a Greatest Hits tour, the setlist was crammed full of all the hits, but in amongst them was a number of servings from the band's newest album 'San Vito' which came out last month. The Junction audience were in fine voice, and whether the song played was old or new, the words were screamed back to the stage with pure passion.
Unlike many bands that are closing in on their 20th anniversary, The Feeling have managed to keep their full original line-up, and the chemistry that comes with this is palpable, All five members seemed to be having the time of their life on stage, and at times it felt like we were watching a bunch of mates have the ultimate jam session. This was most present during Paul Stewart's drum Solo at the end of 'Helicopter', where each band member danced across the stage in a brilliant frenzy, sending the audience wild
Whilst so much of the set was based around the high-energy feel-good music that has become synonymous with The Feeling's music, the performance of 'Rosé' provided a poignant change of pace. The song started with lead singer Dan Gillespie Sells sat alone at a piano, with a singular spotlight above his head, pouring his heart into the words of a song that means so much to so many. This would have been a vocal performance that lives long in the memory regardless of circumstance, but the fact Gillespie Sells is still recovering from laryngitis and sounded this good was mind-blowing.
The night absolutely flew by, with hit after hit being featured. The Feeling have amassed such an impressive discography that huge songs like 'Never Be Lonely' and 'Sewn' were scatted throughout the middle of the set, meaning singalongs were present throughout. By the time the main set closer 'Love It When You Call' had finished, the energy within the junction was immense, yet somehow the encore managed to take this to a whole new level.
The Feeling are a band nearly 20 years down the line, and yet are still at the top of their game.
They put on an energetic live show that meant you couldn't help but leave smillng
