Last month saw Canadian singer-songwriter Chloe Stroll unveil her long-awaited debut album, 'Bloom in the Break', a deeply personal collection that captures love, loss, and renewal with striking honesty. Each song feels like a chapter in a story of self-discovery, shaped by the moments that tested and transformed her. The album’s title reflects that central idea: finding light in life’s fractures, and learning to grow through them rather than despite them. With her evocative storytelling and emotive delivery, Chloe lays bare the emotions that come with heartbreak, healing, and hope, creating something both intimate and empowering.

What makes 'Bloom in the Break' so special is Chloe's ability to write with a true sense of self-awareness and relatability, exploring the vulnerability of letting go, the courage it takes to move forward, and the beauty that can be found in stillness. There’s a sense of calm confidence in her work, as though she’s learned to breathe within the chaos she’s writing about. The album is not only a musical debut but also a personal milestone, a reflection of how far Chloe has already come as an artist, and how exciting a future she has ahead.

To celebrate the release of 'Bloom in the Break', I caught up with Chloe Stroll to discover the songs that shaped and influenced her through my 'Songs Behind' feature.

Favourite Song to Play Live:

'I Stood My Ground' by Chloe Stroll

“I loved singing ‘Home’ live but actually the one I had most fun singing live was ‘I Stood My Ground’. It is such a powerful song and I love belting and really finding strength when I sing live."

Song That Reminds You of Your Childhood:

'A Lot to Give' by Chloe Stroll

“‘A Lot to Give’ reminds me the most of my childhood because I was really shy, and always felt like I should be in the background when I was younger. As I got older I realised that that is not the case and that I should own myself and believe in what I’m doing and increase my confidence."

First Album You Brought:

'Missundaztood' by P!nk & 'Metamorphosis' by Hilary Duff

“The first album I remember buying that had the most significant impact on me was Hillary Duff’s ‘Metamorphosis’ - the Album with the blue cover and her face on it! But I think it was P!nk's ‘Missundaztood’ which was actually one of the very first albums I bought."

Song That Made You Want to Be a Musician:

Disney Music & 'Breakaway' by Kelly Clarkson

"Honestly all the Disney songs. I absolutely loved ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘A Whole New World’, the lyrics and the melody could just transport you to an entirely different place and feeling. It was literally magic for me. Between that and Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Breakaway’ I was hooked."

Song That Gets You Through Hard Times:

'Hold My Hand' by Jess Glynne

"My staple when I’m in a really bad mood, I’m really sad, I need to pump up and want to change my headspace is ‘Hold My Hand’ by Jess Glynne."

A Song You Would Have Loved to Write:

'I Will Always Love You' by Dolly Parton

Song You'd Put On at a Party:

"Right now I’m loving Olivia Dean, she’s such a vibe and I think at a party she would be a lot of fun!"

Favourite Song of All Time:

'Too Sweet' by Hozier

"I tend to rotate songs so I don’t have one in particular that I go back to. But I’m a creature of habit so right now I’m listening to Hozier ‘Too Sweet’ on repeat. I’ll probably listen to it 60 more times and then I’ll move on to a different song!"

Song You are Most Proud Of:

Proud of them all (but especially 'Home')

“I’m really proud of all of my songs to be honest. ‘Home’ is probably the one that stood out to me the most in terms of lyrics, melody and trying to really explain how I feel and marrying those two things. I think ‘Home’ did it in such an amazing way and I cried when I listened to it for the first time. Whilst ‘Home’ is probably the song that I feel I am the most proud of, I am actually proud of all of them. "
