Maisi - 'try'

Maisi returns with her latest single ‘try’, an alt-pop track glowing with optimism as it explores self-sabotage, untapped potential, and the wish for someone you love to finally believe in themselves. Capturing the chaos, humour, and anxiety of your twenties, when everyone seems to be at a different stage, it’s a song about wanting the people around you to grow, but above all, to be happy. Serving as the opening single from Maisi’s new EP ‘u could be something’, ‘try’ sets the tone for a project defined by honesty and introspection. It’s an immediate emotional connection, tender, relatable, and full of heart. More than anything, ‘try’ is another reminder of why Maisi remains one of alt-pop’s most compelling new voices.

Davina Michelle has returned with her first full new release of 2025, ‘What A Woman’, an empowering anthem celebrating the intelligence, resilience, and versatility of women. Beth McCarthy's string of stellar singles continues with ‘Drama At The Disco’, arguably her catchiest release to date. The track captures the chaos and thrill of a night out, blending infectious energy with a confident, playful edge that keeps listeners hooked from start to finish. ‘Drama At The Disco’ almost feels like a song of two halves, mixing bouncy pop-rock verses with a huge anthemic chorus which feels tailor-made for the biggest venues. Beth McCarthy seems to grow as an artist more and more with every release, with this new single highlighting her effortless ability to turn fun, relatable moments into irresistibly catchy pop. 2025 has already been the year of Beth McCarthy, and with even more new music already being teased, it doesn't look like she will be slowing down anytime soon.

Tabi Gervis - 'How Long Can You Stay?'

Last week saw Tabi Gervis return with her first release in over a year, ‘How Long Can You Stay?’, a groovy-pop track that balances retro romance with modern flair. The song’s flirty lyrics ask the simple, yet captivating question of a sweetheart romance, whilst the soft-funk style production gives the song a nostalgic charm reminiscent of classic love songs. Tabi’s vocals are effortlessly smooth, mixed with a danceable groove that makes the track impossible not to hum along to. The combination of vintage inspiration and contemporary polish creates a track that feels both timeless and fresh, showcasing Tabi’s flair for catchy, feel-good pop. ‘How Long Can You Stay?’ is the perfect reintroduction to Tabi Gervis, who has all the making of a true superstar.

CATTY - 'Make You Love Me'

CATTY is another artist on a streak of standout releases, now entering the final stretch before her highly anticipated new EP 'Bracing For Impact' arrives on October 24th. However, before the EP’s full release, CATTY still had time to drop one final single, ‘Make You Love Me’, a shimmering pop track that turns heartbreak into ritual. Wrapped in glistening synths and quiet drama, it captures the tension between disappointment and hope as CATTY vows to rewrite the endings of past loves. It’s a portrait of stubborn devotion and rose-tinted optimism, where desire and longing collide with a powerful, thunderous energy. ‘Make You Love Me’ continues her 2025 run of singles, showcasing her natural flair for theatrical storytelling in pop, and her ability to deliver vulnerability and strength in equal measure.

Luke White - 'Define Love'

Luke White closes out 2025 with ‘Define Love’, his most intimate release yet. Stripped-back in style, the track delivers a heartfelt meditation on vulnerability, devotion, and the hope of getting love right. The song creates a moving moment that highlights not just Luke’s vocal prowess but also the power of his lyrics, allowing listeners to reflect on their own relationships through his journey. Inspired by a pivotal moment in Luke’s life, the track balances nostalgia with universal emotion, capturing the delicate thrill of finding the right person. ‘Define Love’ showcases Luke’s gift for connecting deeply through music, blending honesty and melody in a way that lingers long after the song ends, and positions him firmly as one of pop’s most compelling voices going forward.

Joe Hicks - 'Heart in Two'

Last week saw Joe Hicks drop his second single of the year, ‘Heart In Two’, a soaring track from his newly announced upcoming album ‘Before It Gets Dark’, set for release on March 27th 2026. The track is a deeply personal exploration of grief, heartbreak, and finding hope amid life’s turbulence. Joe’s crystal-clear vocals glide over a steadily building arrangement, reaching an uplifting chorus that balances melancholy with defiance. Written during a period of profound loss and personal reflection, the song captures the frustration of watching life pass by while seeking peace with past choices. It’s both cathartic and comforting, offering a reminder that even in moments of despair there is resilience. This is a truly special track, and one that will undoubtedly build even more excitement for Joe’s highly anticipated upcoming album.

Macie Nyah - 'Boyfriend'

Pop superstar Macie Nyah has just released her first single of 2025, ‘Boyfriend’, a vibrant and catchy track that celebrates the playful side of friendship and love. Framing a platonic connection in a story full of charm and humour, the song captures the flirty confusion of blurred boundaries between friendships with a light-hearted energy that instantly hooks the listener. Meera Blackburn - 'Same Way'

Last week also saw Meera Blackburn release ‘Same Way’, a sharp and sassy dark-pop track about fake friends and the fallout of setting boundaries. Driven by harmonious vocals and a gritty guitar track, ‘Same Way’ captures the frustration of being vilified for simply matching people’s energy or stepping back from draining friendships. Meera’s clever lyricism and striking delivery turn a relatable social dilemma into a track that feels both personal and universal. This new release is a bold statement of self-assurance, blending honesty and empowerment into a song that resonates with anyone who has navigated the tricky dynamics of friendships.

Glossy Boy - 'Peace By The River'

Glossy Boy have just entered a new era with ‘Peace By The River’, the first single from their upcoming EP ‘People’. The track explores themes of isolation, prejudice, and resentment with a fresh perspective, calling upon jangling guitars and tight rhythms to create a sound that balances indie-pop energy with thoughtful storytelling. As their first release as a four-piece, the track carries an added sonic punch from the extra guitar, elevating it even further beyond the band’s already impressive previous releases ‘Peace By The River’ captures both the intimacy and drive of Glossy Boy’s evolving sound, offering an engaging, reflective listen that resonates long after the final note, while hinting at the darker, more nuanced moments of their forthcoming EP.

Liam Foody - 'The One'

Liam Foody is another artist who has just dropped their first track of 2025, ‘The One’, a reflective indie-pop track exploring the struggle of holding on to what we don’t want to let go of. The song blends atmospheric production with heartfelt songwriting, balancing introspection with a subtle melodic hook. Foody’s vocals carry a quiet vulnerability, drawing the listener into the emotional journey of acceptance and growth. Alongside the powerful, almost nostalgic-laden vocals, the track layers synths, guitar, and driving drums to create a sound that feels both expansive and immersive. ‘The One’ builds on the promise Foody has shown since his debut, marking him as a compelling new voice in the Irish indie scene and a songwriter to watch.

Michael T Ogilvie - 'Flex'

The trend of artists dropping their first track of 2025 continues with Michael T Ogilvie, who has just dropped his new single ‘FLEX’, a high-energy dance-pop track brimming with confidence, desire, and queer power. The song is unapologetically flirtatious, celebrating the male physique while playfully toying with egos in the most fun and cheeky way. Hypnotic beats and bold lyricism make the track impossible to ignore, balancing sensuality with self-aware humour. ‘FLEX’ is a statement of identity and empowerment, showcasing Ogilvie’s flair for crafting anthems that are as vibrant and playful as they are memorable.

A Different Kitchen - 'Busy'

A Different Kitchen builds on the release of last month’s SOTW ‘Gorilla’ with ‘Busy’, the second gritty single from their upcoming EP ‘Revolt’. The new track is a sharp, concise statement on society’s pressures and the often-uncomfortable expectations of modern life. Drawing on post-punk influences, ‘Busy’ blends urgency and grit with thought-provoking lyricism, creating a song that challenges listeners while remaining irresistibly engaging. It encourages reflection on injustice and the courage to push back against restrictive norms, all within a compact, impactful runtime. ‘Busy’ showcases A Different Kitchen’s ability to combine social commentary with gripping, energetic music, building even more hype for their highly anticipated upcoming EP.

Moni Jean - 'Kiss and Make Up'

This week’s Songs of the Week are rounded out by Moni Jean and ‘Kiss and Make Up’, the opening track from her debut EP ‘Trust Fall’. 2025 has been a breakout year for Moni Jean, and the release of her EP caps it off perfectly, with ‘Kiss and Make Up’ serving as the perfect opener. The EP opens with Moni’s vocals taking centre stage from the first note, effortlessly drawing the listener in, before a nostalgic, textured backing joins to create a rich, emotive soundscape. The track balances vulnerability with poise, showcasing again why Moni Jean has been a repeated standout in my Songs of the Week this year. The EP also features another new track called ‘Dive’ which is equally incredible, so I recommend you check the whole thing out.
