Songs of the Week - 06/10/2025

These are the 12 tracks you need to check out this week!

ISOLABELLA - 'ghosts'

This week’s Songs of the Week are kicked off by one of the biggest breakout stars of 2025, ISOLABELLA, and her stunning new single ‘ghosts’. The song is nothing short of a masterpiece, blending ISOLABELLA’s trademark harmonious vocals and heartfelt lyrics with a moving backing track that builds to the most incredible orchestral crescendo. ‘ghosts’ captures the eerie silence that follows when someone disappears from your life without a trace. Built around a sense of emotional whiplash, it moves from closeness to emptiness, holding onto all those words that never got the chance to be said. ISOLABELLA’s lyrics carry a raw honesty, making this another extremely relatable release from an artist who is destined for the biggest of stages. This is a must-listen for anyone who’s felt that sudden drop from connection to absence, and the lingering ache of words left unsaid.

Eileen Alister - 'Honeymoon in a Motel'

Another artist who has had a huge 2025 is pop superstar Eileen Alister, who has just released her highly anticipated debut album ‘Honeymoon in a Motel’. Highlighting just one song for such a feature is near impossible, as this is genuinely one of the best debut records I have heard for some time, but if I had to pick one it would be the album’s title track. ‘Honeymoon in a Motel’ feels like the perfect curtain call for such a stellar album. It’s an atmospheric and deeply romantic piece that celebrates a love untouched by circumstance, a reminder that real connection outshines anything money can buy. With dreamy vocals and cinematic production, Alister paints a vivid picture of two people finding joy in simplicity, where the walls of a cheap motel room feel like the whole world. As the final song on the record, it lingers with quiet power, wrapping up the album’s emotional journey in a way that feels both intimate and timeless. It is a final statement on a record that sees Eileen Alister not just as the future of the industry, but as a defining voice of the present.

Emily-Mae - 'MAN ON THE TRAIN'

We then move from a debut album to a debut EP, this time from Emily-Mae, who has just put out the genre-diverse ‘Delusion Susan’, a three-track work of art that immediately stamps Emily-Mae’s mark on the UK music scene. The EP’s opening track ‘MAN ON THE TRAIN’ is my pick for this feature, as I believe it acts as the perfect window into the deep-rooted artistry possessed by Emily-Mae. The song is a character-driven number that blends folk-inspired storytelling with soulful, commanding vocals and a feel-good pop energy. The song unfolds like a vivid short story, full of personality and emotional nuance, with Emily-Mae’s delivery giving every line a sense of lived experience. However, all three songs on the EP really are something special, so I definitely urge you to check them all out.

Sundown - '17'

London-based duo SUNDOWN recently released their third single, ‘17’, in what may well be their best to date.  Alongside releasing music, SUNDOWN run their own record studio, and that expert knowledge is vivid throughout this track. The song is driven by sleek production and a strong emotional core. It’s a polished, heartfelt release that perfectly captures the difficult moments of relationships with powerful lyricism and moving vocals. True to their independent spirit, SUNDOWN continue to carve their own path, keeping their music off streaming platforms and instead sharing it directly through their website. It’s a move that makes each release feel personal, reinforcing their belief that music should be owned, not just played. This is by no means an advert, but if you want to listen to some of the most authentic, catchy pop music around, I strongly recommend you head to SUNDOWN’s website and pick up your own copy!

Lily Lane - 'Don't Stop'

Lily Lane continues her brilliant year of releases with the Y2k-inspired ‘Don’t Stop’. This playful pop track leans into intimacy and confidence with an effortless charm that has become so consistent across Lily’s music. Blending glamour, soul, and a dash of cheeky nostalgia, the track channels the early-2000s icons Lily grew up idolizing, but is delivered in a way that still feels entirely her own. Lane’s smooth vocals glide over a shimmering production, capturing the thrill of giving in to desire without apology. It’s a song that radiates empowerment and fun in equal measure, bold, self-assured, and irresistibly catchy. ‘Don’t Stop’ also acts as another exciting preview of Lily Lane’s upcoming Domesticated EP.

Madeleine McPherson - 'Dangerous'

Madeleine McPherson has closed out both 2025 and her ‘Blonde Era’ with this brand-new single ‘Dangerous’. The track leans into the tension of wanting someone you know could break you. It’s about temptation, self-awareness, and the pull toward something thrilling but wrong. Driven by Madeleine’s effortlessly brilliant vocals and emotionally resonant lyricism, ‘Dangerous’ captures that intoxicating mix of desire and doubt. It is yet another impressive release in McPherson’s masterful discography, featuring what I believe to be her best bridge to date, making it the perfect way to round off her year of singles. With this track being the end of an era that has seen Madeleine McPherson firmly discover herself as an artist, I am beyond excited to see what is next.

Megan Scott - 'Lowkey Obsessed'

Last week saw Megan Scott release her second single ‘Lowkey Obsessed’, following on from July’s debut (and past SOTW track) ‘Never Really Over’. The new release is a playful and relatable pop track about that crush you can’t stop thinking about but aren’t ready to admit. The song captures the thrill and awkwardness of trying to play it cool while your mind keeps wandering back to the person who’s always in your thoughts. With catchy hooks and a lighthearted energy, ‘Lowkey Obsessed’ balances sweetness and vulnerability, making it easy to connect with for anyone who’s ever had a secret infatuation. Megan’s vocals carry both charm and sincerity, turning a universal experience into a memorable, singalong-worthy moment that lingers long after the track ends.

Diveboy - 'Glory Days'

The end of September saw Irish trio Diveboy release ‘Glory Days’, an anthemic indie track that captures both the thrill and melancholy of growing older while clinging to the spirit of youth. The song bursts with driving guitars and soaring vocals, carrying a nostalgic energy that feels tailor-made for late-night singalongs. Lyrically, it reflects on how each generation romanticizes its past, but with a self-awareness that keeps it grounded rather than bitter. There’s warmth and wisdom beneath the captivating production, which channels the big-hearted sound that’s long defined the band. As the band begin teasing work on a brand-new album, ‘Glory Days’ feels like a confident reminder that Diveboy are still chasing bigger stages and even bigger emotions, and sounding better than ever doing it.

Kati Cooke - 'girls girl'

Kati Cooke returned last week with her fiery new single ‘girls girl’, capturing a heartbreak that few write about, losing a close friend. This song is honest, fierce, and burns with truth, exploring the confusion and raw emotion of a friendship breakup. Kati’s vocals are both striking throughout, perfectly matching the emotion of the single whilst harmoniously riding over a catchy, dynamic production that balances experimental textures with an emotional core. The song makes you want to scream, cry, and maybe even reach out to that friend again. With vivid storytelling and a fresh perspective, “girls girl” is a perfect example of a pop song being delivered with depth and personality.

Possibly Jamie - 'Geometric Heart'

Last week also saw Possibly Jamie release an EP that is not only musically impressive, but also possesses one of the best titles I have heard in some time, ‘Male Pattern Narcissism’. Each track on the EP offers a perfect window into Jamie’s artistic journey, but my pick of the bunch has to be opening number ‘Geometric Heart’. The song feels a catchy, modern take on 80s synth-pop, pairing gripping electronic textures with Jamie’s inventive melodies. It’s a track that feels both nostalgic and fresh, immediately engaging and primed for the dance floor while still carrying the intellectual ambition fans have come to expect from Possibly Jamie’s songwriting.  It is smart, adventurous, and irresistibly danceable.

ALIE - 'Closer To Losing'

Another emotional song released at the end of last month is ALIE’s new single, “Closer to Losing”. This deeply personal reflection on grief and the fear of losing someone you love, sees ALIE delve into her most intimate emotions in a raw and organic way. The track blends acoustic guitars, harmonica, and banjo to create a sound that feels alive and breathing, giving every lyric weight and sincerity. Sung with a warm, folky vocal, the song conveys the hesitation and heaviness of difficult conversations, moments where words feel almost impossible to say. It’s a testament to ALIE’s dedication to crafting music that resonates emotionally, combining storytelling with authentic instrumentation. The result is a heartfelt indie folk piece that lingers with you long after the final note.

CALL IT VAIN - 'Pressure'

This week’s Songs of the Week are rounded out by the gritty debut release of new indie-rock artist CALL IT VAIN. The track, ‘Pressure’, is a perfect introduction to an artist who has all the talents to take the scene by storm. Calling upon hazy guitars and an almost shoegaze tone throughout, CALL IT VAIN has created a punchy debut that feels both urgent and personal. There is a raw DIY feel throughout the track, highlighting the authenticity the CALL IT VAIN project is going to be carrying, but that by no means equates to a lack of quality. This is one of the most explosive and impressive first releases I have heard in some time, delivered by an artist who has immediately made themselves a one to watch.
